In 1995 I purchased my first new car - a green Saturn. I had just graduated from college and was SO excited to have a brand new car. I loved my Saturn. I had it for about 7 years before it started pooping out on me. Well about the time I noticed the bad oil leak, my dear brother Eric convinced me to purchase his Daewoo. I mean it had automatic locks and windows which the Saturn did not. For a girl, stuff like that makes the sell. I agreed to purchase it BEFORE I even saw it. Yep. I flew up to Salt Lake and met up with Eric and there it was. The ugly, compact, Daewoo. First thing out of my mouth was "I don't want this car". But I made the verbal commitment (and he is my brother) so I purchased it.
The car did go with me from Mesa to Boston to Chicago to Niagara Falls to Boston to Las Vegas and never had an engine issue. Does anyone remember the window incident in Boston? One of the back windows automatic motor died. The window was stuck about half-up and we got a snow storm. Lots of snow in the back seat. Lots of mildew smells for weeks after. Never fixed it. Hammered a board into the panel to permanently make it stay up. Or what about the 360 I did on a snowy Boston roadway? Miracle I didn't hit anyone or they didn't hit me.
I was extremely happy to get rid of that thing in May of 2006. I purchased a Toyota Solara (great car!) and got about $800 for the trade-in on the Daewoo. (btw... the spell check keeps alerting me on Daewoo. It doesn't even recognize it as a decent car. ha ha) Well, I've been getting all these obnoxious calls recently from solicitors stating "the factory warranty on your car has expired". Blah, blah, blah. I just assumed they were talking about my Toyota. I had minimal coverage on it when I purchased it and I know those car dealerships make good money on warranty sells. So I was looking through my mail this morning and what do I run across...
2001 Daewoo Nubira Owner Notification
Dear Erin,
Our records indicate that the factory warranty on your vehicle has expired. As a loyal Daewoo owner...
I could not stop laughing!! The Daewoo? A. didn't they go out of business? B. I got rid of it over 2 years ago. C. I would not pay one dime for a warranty on that thing.
I think I might call though to see what they say...
