My garage door

I got home from the gym last night and pushed the button to close my garage door but the garage door only went down 2/3 of the way and then stopped. Drats.

I walked over to manually push it down but it would not budge. I locked the inside door and left it open; what else could I do? Oh, there is a lever to override the opener and do it manually you say? Why was I not smart enough to figure that out?

Seriously... one of my engineers from work called today about an issue and I told him I was home cause I couldn't get my car out of the garage. He chuckled and then walked me through how to disarm the automatic opener so I could manually open and close the door. He also gave me a basic garage door opener 101 lesson to see if there was anyway I could fix it myself. Which I cannot and which I will not pay for someone to fix until I get back from my work trip next week. Now that I know I can open it manually there is no rush to get it fixed. You can see the writing on the wall, can't you... I'll be opening up that door for the next year ;)

So in our first home, we installed a brand new garage door opener. Within months, it broke (or so we thought). Years later when selling our house, my FIL came over to help get things fixed here and there and lo and behold! All that was wrong with the garage door opener was that the laser beams weren't straight and the sensor wouldn't let the door open because it sensed something in the way.

DUH!!!!!!!!!!
