When I moved to Boston in 2004 (or was it 2003?) I was very lucky knowing Mike and Marissa and was instantly taken in by their friends and there was not that usual lull that goes by when moving to a new city and trying to meet new people. In fact, I forgot that lull actually existed until I moved to Las Vegas. I was so spoiled by that experience that I assumed Vegas would be the same way. It was not. I even forgot about moving to Arizona post-college and going through that same lull. The idea of a lull was a thing of the past.
I remember moving to Vegas, getting settled in and then turning around and thinking 'huh, where are my friends?' I did/do have friends at work and those friends are important but I like to leave work and not talk about work and need friends who aren't associated with work. I also have friends in AZ, UT, Boston, CA and other places (Peru) but none were here in Vegas. It was a long journey (is that too dramatic?) to make friends here. And why? I'm a likeable person. I can shop, eat, hike, go to movies with the best of them. I think it just takes time to find those people you connect with and that is okay. But I have friends now and am working hard to make more friends and I wanted to give a shout-out to Aryn. She is a good friend. We have fun. We like to go to Cafe Rio once/week. We like to email approximately 10 times during the day to each other. We like to talk about life. We like to talk each other into crazy things like colon cleansings, hip-hop classes and watercolor classes. We like to go to movies (even though 8 out of 10 times she falls asleep). We have fun. She is a good friend.
My Mom called me tonight after I got home from dinner with Aryn and she asked if Aryn was a good friend. And I was happy to say YES!
And for all my other friends out there who had to listen to me complain during the lull when I had no one to do things with, well... uh... that's what friends are for! ;) I heart my friends!

So, exactly what does someone have to do to be the topic of a post?
And btw, if you heart Aryn, we all heart Aryn.
What a nice post. And I know all your faithful readers would agree that YOU are a good friend. I came home last night thinking how glad I am that you not only keep me laughing, but make me think. About important things. You have a great perspective on life and a subtle but powerful way of sharing it. Good stuff.
Now, I must get back to colon cleansing and purchasing a leotard that flatters my booty for that hip hop dance class...
