What is it with foreigners and asking too much or being brutally honest? I sent out an email to my group at work telling them I would be working 3 days/week starting this week. I knew everyone would wonder why the change in schedule but figured no one would come right out and ask. Enter one of my engineers who is from another country that shall not be named but it rhymes with Shyjuan. And yes, she is the same one who told me I had gained weight once and told me I had sun damage on my skin. Gee, thanks, I hadn't noticed.
Here was our conversation:
First thing out of her mouth when I got on the phone "why are you going part-time?"
"Oh, for personal reasons"
"Are you having a medical procedure"
"No"
"Is something wrong?"
"No, just personal" (meaning, stop asking!)
"But why would you want to do that?"
"Its just necessary right now"
It went on like this for a few moments. What I couldn't say to her was I'm burned out with this job, you all drive me insane, I'm trying to chill out so Eric and I can get pregnant and I really want more time for me because I can do this right now so I'm going to.
Seriously, why the intrusive behavior? Ha.

You HAVE to dish it right back. I think you should report back on how intrusive you can get with her. I'd love to see how she reacts. People who don't understand social norms, kinda fascinate me.
i won't even tell you how long it took me to figure out what country rhymed with Shyjuan.
good for you for the 3 days a week! enjoy erin!!
Got it all the time in Venezuela. No personal bubbles. People's nicknames matched their physical appearance. It wasn't insulting to call someone fatty. They couldn't get over how rosy my cheeks were. The slightest physical imperfection and they jumped all over it. :) Enjoy the 3 day work schedule!
