Can cancer hit a recession?

Yesterday was a bittersweet day.

Bitter because 100 people in my company lost their jobs; sweet because it wasn't me.

Bitter because 2 of my favorite co-workers lost their jobs; sweet because it wasn't me.

Bitter because I will now be taking on more responsibilities; sweet because it still wasn't me.

Bitter because I saw their severance package and was a tad jealous of "paid time off with full health benefits"; sweet because I'll still be employed after that "paid time off".

They say healthcare is usually recession proof. I'm not sure who "they" are but the recession is hitting healthcare. For those who don't know, I work for a company that develops hardware and software for cancer care. Can cancer hit a recession?

I feel guilt, I feel blessed, I feel sad, I feel angry, I feel optimistic.

I am so sorry! I hope you co-workers are able to find employment quickly. That is a scary position to be in. I am really glad that you are still employed.

Layoffs are no fun for anyone. I'm really glad you still have your job.
